YouTube Thumbnail Downloader — one video, or a whole channel

Paste the video URL and press the button. We walk YouTube's own thumbnail ladder — maxresdefault (1280x720) first, then sddefault, hqdefault and so on — and hand you the largest size that actually exists for that video. Older uploads were never rendered above 720p, which is why asking only for maxres gives other tools a grey placeholder.

Yes. Switch to the "Whole channel" tab, paste the channel URL or @handle, and choose how many recent uploads to look at (up to 200). Every thumbnail is downloaded and packaged into a single ZIP.

That's what the "Order by" and "Then keep only" controls are for. Set the limit to 16, order by Most viewed, and keep Top 3 — you get the three best-performing thumbnails out of that channel's last 16 uploads. Least viewed works the same way, which is useful for spotting what to re-design.

Yes. Shorts use the same video ids and the same thumbnail paths, so a /shorts/ link works exactly like a /watch?v= link.

Thumbnails come from i.ytimg.com, which serves images with no API key, no login and no meaningful rate limit, so the image fetching itself does not get throttled. Listing a channel does talk to YouTube, so we keep that to a small number of parallel requests on purpose — a slow, complete run beats a fast, half-blocked one.

A single run looks at up to 200 videos, or up to 100 pasted links. Run it again for more.

Thumbnails are the uploader's copyrighted work. Downloading them for research, competitive analysis, mockups and reference is normal practice; republishing one as your own is not. Credit the creator.

Because that video has no larger thumbnail. YouTube only renders maxresdefault for uploads above 720p, so for older or low-resolution videos the real maximum is 640x480 or 480x360 — which is what we return, labelled honestly.
